In a tunnel, traffic safety deserves extra attention. If cars slow down or suddenly come to a standstill, it is crucial that this is reported immediately. Then it can be checked in real time whether a dangerous situation is actually occurring. The new SOS system, which stands for Speed ??Undershooting System, detects these speed changes by means of loops and cameras.
In the summer of 2024, the Swalmen Tunnel and the Roertunnel on the A73 will be completely renovated. VDK company HIG Traffic Systems designed, supplied and installed a new SOS system.
